“Mermaid Avenue” is an original theater piece created by Joe Brady, director of Hood College Theatre, and the student ensemble. The play is based on the 1998 album of previously unheard lyrics written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie, put to music written and performed by British singer Billy Bragg and the American band Wilco. The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album and placed fourth n the 1998 Jazz & Pop critics' poll, conducted by The Village Voice newspaper.
Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the door beginning 30 minutes before each show. Admission is $10 for the general public, students, Hood faculty and staff tickets are $5 and Hood students are free.
