Spirit Voices: Symphony Orchestra Concert
November 30, 2012 to November 30, 2012
8:00 PM

Recurs
Gettysburg, PA

Please join the Gettysburg College Symphony Orchestra and soloist Daniel Levitov for an evening of music to lift your spirits during the holiday season! On Friday, November 30 at 8pm the Orchestra will perform a diverse set of works by Felix Mendelssohn, Ernst Bloch, and Darius Milhaud, each of which explore mankind's relationship with the divine.
Opening the program will be Felix Mendelssohn's popular Hebrides Overture, conducted by GCSO assistant conductor Ryan Kozak. Inspired by a visit to northern Scotland, Mendelssohn's overture reflects the awe and wonder the composer felt while visiting the natural wonders of the Hebrides islands. Next it's off to France, for Darius Milhaud's rarely-performed Concerto No. 2 for Violoncello and Orchestra, featuring Sunderman Conservatory faculty member Daniel Levitov. Levitov will be featured as well in the next work, Ernst Bloch's moving Prayer for solo cello and strings. The concert concludes with a return to Mendelssohn, this time with the rousing Symphony No. 5, "Reformation," written on the 300th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession.
The concert takes place in Gettysburg's Historic Majestic Theater. Tickets are $5 per adult; students, faculty and staff with a College ID and children are admitted free. For more information, contact the Majestic Box Office at 717.337.8200.
